Old Ford Tractor- Oil Painting

This one done late afternoon, experimenting with a palette
I've not used before. Just for fun and to see what's to see.

Used yellow ocre, W&N bright red, black and white...

This is only 6"x 4" in size...

I have been reading Kevin MacPherson's latest book and he suggests an alternative using Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, and Black as the primaries. I haven't tried it yet, but thought it produced an interesting earth tone result. (He likes a simple palette, as you may know.)

yep...familiar with Kevin's palette experiments...having a couple of his books. I've also seen some working with Raw Sienna, Umber, black and white to some great results.

Today...an artist mentioned that Zorn's palette including black had more blue in the black pigment in his day than today. So, I may experiment adding some blue to black...

its all fun.

thanks for the comment, James!
