Chessy Retriever Oil Painting- Riley...

Now that Christmas has come, it is now safe to
post this work I completed about a month ago, which
I did at my younger son's request as a gift to his wife
Ashley. From my wife and I....

To prep, I did a couple smaller oil studies...

The dog is young...full of vigor and all that is pup.
She is maturing. I love her intense gaze. A very pretty
dog...and painting this reminded me why I used to love
accepting commissions to paint dogs. I believe I will
open myself up again for such dog portraits.

20"x 24" oil

Larry, this is really beautiful. You captured a great moment. The background is great and the colors sing.

Beautiful dogs! I sincerely wish that I could do realism, but my animals and people all seem to have a cartoon quality to them. I guess it is because I taught myself to draw from the funny papers and comic books when I was a kid. Despite a degree in art, many classes, workshops, and years of practice and teaching, when left on my own, the cartoon or expressionistic side takes over.
Love your work!
