Using a past plein air as reference and study...
Painted at Long Slide falls of the Pembonwon River in NE Wisconsin...a favorite place to paint, bring hearty workshop students...
Using this, and a couple reference photos taken my last workshop time there this past summer-
So...started by building my own gallery wrap style stretcher frames, then stretching oil primed linen...and applied a tone of quinacridone red, cad lemon yellow, touch of black...copal medium and turps. Immediately using a rag to wipe out the sky, light hitting rocks and water...
..and couldn't call it a day without at least starting to get some values goin' in this one,

Your step by step always so rewarding! Thanks for sharing. And, it's funny but the very early stage reminds me of some paintings by Gustave Moreau. Highly ghostly... though the final one is highly luminous. All the art is inside this journey...

I've been very busy this days, not with my art, so the paint tubes are dumb, the brushes sleeping and the canvas crying.
I took a little time to go to wetcanvas and to visit some friends, which is what I'm doing now.
And what a pleasure is visiting you.
And you've been writing a lot too.
I firmely believe that the speach is part of the art.
We know that a painting can stand alone, for itself, but when the creator talks about his creation you'll never look at his creation with the same eyes as before that, because now you have some coordenates to guide you, now you know where it comes from and where it points to into the future...
