Art teacher stuff...

As some are aware, I am an art instructor...not just painting, drawing and so forth, but touch on all areas of the arts.  Thanks to the influence of a friend and VERY good potter, another art teacher Dale Keller, (check his blog out featuring his fine pottery ...for whom I enjoy the blessing of some of his wares and art, I thought I'd try and make a baking dish.  His is such a fine piece, and we've enjoyed some fantastic baked dishes, great chicken and so forth.

At any rate...mine are not for sale, just one of those things I do as I teach...and so will every so often be more the dabbler and have some fun.

Last night following school...I threw a baking dish of my own on our standing kick wheel.  A bit more aerobic and work, but my preference in throwing.  Don't usually have to worry about that wheel not being available, the others all electric...hahaaa...

so...here's my bottom and lid...three pieces thrown separately, then at leather hard the two  bowl shapes are trimmed...the smaller handle is attached.  Fun stuff...and now, they'll be fired, then glaze fired.

Dale is a master potter...and most fantastic knowledge of glazes, check his site out!

You are so multi-talented! These are awesome - just have to ask and this is really ornery - can you cook, too! hehehe

Very nice work.

thanks TJ...
to the point simply, I'm an art instructor...so, such things I am supposed to know. In fact, this is the first bowl I've thrown as a demo that I did not crush and toss back into the clay barrel in years. Making it because I want to make use of it.

Where it comes to pottery, I'm genuinely more impressed by what my friends produce, and I tend to stick to my own art.

As for cooking, my wife has fibromyalgia...and I do tend to do most of the cooking actually, which helps her out! hahaaa...

take care

Larry
