Dog Tags Oil Painting 7x5 Larry Seiler

7"x 5" oil
Buy a giclee print of this work at Imagekind!

These are my old Vietnam era Navy dogtags...and they
are of course very personal. Out of uniform if you were
ever separate from them. We showered with them on,
slept...you name it.

I had fun painting the reflective properties of metal, and
the suggestive marks of paint to imitate the stamping of
my name, and information tags have on them...and like
always, click on the image to enjoy a larger view.

My work is available for sale, I make a Paypal page for
those that contact me, so you can pay direct with
credit card on a secure broker transaction. I also consider
checks, money orders. Don't often speak of that...but,
just thought I'd mention it.

Hi Larry,
When I saw this my jaw dropped and then came to a big smile! Anyone who ever served would know the closeness you had to your dogtags...so much so that you forgot you had em on most of the time. This is AWESOME! (wish I had thought to paint mine).
I plan on leaving mine to my daughters one day...one to each.
Very cool painting Larry. My favorite of yours.

thanks Ron...nice to hear from a fellow serviceman who knows!! Appreciated...

seems to have that special thing...which I think is a connection to our own attachments to it...

Aaah you have been tagged already!

Here in the Netherlands they have one dogtag which contains the two together, ... when the person becomes injured or dies the tag would be broken, ....

Dutch dogtag

some folks don't understand the gruesome procedure in a combat situation how one tag is often left with the body...the other taken for later records and return...

so strange really, to see an aesthetic beauty to a thing that can represent so many things including that which is ghastly...

thanks Rene...and appreciated seeing the Dutch tags...quite interesting...
