Pushed a bit more paint around this late afternoon...
beef'n up values, a lot more paint to suggest grasses
and started thinking about the light sculpting the
background trees. One or two more sessions should
do it...

This is looking really good dad, love it! I've got a question . . . are you using a little black in those dark areas? I can't get that dark with a limited palette unless I use a bit of black.
yeah...I mentioned in a WIP on wetcanvas...that I was playing with several palettes, again not to define myself but to experiment as I so often do.
Some palette strategies like the triad and such invite the traditional use of white and black to complete the palette.
Outdoors I have not yet justified use of black, which no doubt separates my work from indoors, but I often see painting indoors as time to experiment.
I'm not a fan of black, since most artists use it poorly and lose the feeling of natural light and REAL'ness. I yet have the option to paint back into the black areas too.
Taking your Zorn or Sorolla palette, I bought a tube of yellow ocre over the weekend. Again, just to experiment. I saw several boat paintings that David Simmons has done of recent in the Wetcanvas landscape forum. Check 'em out... using raw umber, raw sienna, cobalt blue and white. Lovely classic look on linen panels...
Its all about learning and experimenting...and I always appreciate if my experiment with a black does not look or feel right. I used black way too much in my tonal years as a wildlife artist, that coming to understand that...I ran far away from black for near twelve years now.
