Your gouache paintings are so like your plein air oils Larry.

the kind of comment that resonates with my aims, Doug...thanks.

For me...gouache is like scaled down oils practice. Using it creamier, opaque...it works well with alla prima direct methods...

Have you ever thought or wonder that your oils are NOW like your gouaches because you are NOW painting in oils like you paint in gouache SINCE you paint in gouache?
(sorry for my macaronic english)

Objectively, we are always too close to something to fully understand what we don't know...so, if the oils are influencing the gouache, or the gouache the oils..its a fun thing to contemplate.

My thinking is...plein air for the past 17-19 years probably had more to do with any application of paint to surface for me than anything. A driven urgency to get it down, get it right...or be found standing literally in the dark with nothing to take home. Blame it on the sun...! 8^)

I do enjoy your gouche paintings as well----I enjoy using gouche too---especially on streched Mi tientes paper. What do you use for your paintings plein-air in gouche?? Loved your webinar's because you really are prepared and give fantastic talks in art. So knowledgeable and interseting and inspriring!!! Thanks.

thanks Ida...I use the same supports painting gouache outdoors...Strathmore #400 series board, or acid free matboards, or heavy watercolor paper that I might often tone...

appreciate the feedback on the webinars too...those, creating them are another art form in a sense of themselves...
