Another Gestural Landscape Oil...Flooded Timbers... 10"x 20" on linen

Used left over paint from my last paint session, added a bit of color and pigment to have a generous pile of warmer brown.  Using copal and turps...painted over the linen...then used a rag to wipe out negative space and suggestion of trees...

The linen is taped to an art foam core board, about two inches extra around and later I'll either stretch this to stretcher frames, or glue to hardboard...

Then...took breaks helping a student at the potter's wheel..hopping back and forth to my easel...and quickly painted in the beginning of flooded timbers and winter dead early spring grasses...

Intentions will be to bring one area of the painting to a very realistic finishing and allow outter regions to trail off into gestural la-la land...

Wonderful technique and painting. I use a similar technique for rocks under water.

Hi Larry,
After decades of painting and you still are looking forward to the next boundary.
The last one I remeber was gouache.
And you did an amazing work with it (I hope you keep painting in gouache).
Now you are trying what seems to me another way of looking at the world or making art from it.
That represents the nonconformist nature of art or perhaps also YOUR nonconformist nature.
Congratulations!
and by the way... thanks

thanks Kurt...Helder...
life is too short not to find out what lies just beyond your limitations and then push for it.

An old saying comes to mind, "if you do the same thing you've always done, you'll get the same things you've always had"

Something has to change if what one desires to grow into has any chance...
