Teaching's been taking up much of it...

a few closeups...trying to keep background soft and thin layers,
and nearer foliage thicker and carefully laid on...

An outdoor painter by preference- (setting up on location to paint from life), the works of this blog will be frequent exercises painted from whatever strikes my fancy with intent to sharpen my eye, push and stretch my understanding of paint. Note that my links will include my larger artist's site, and latest available giclee prints at Image Kind. Feel free to inquire to the availability of any works seen here.

Whoa Dad, this one is kicking butt!! Seriously nice! I started a new self-caricature, will probably be the cover for my book . . . . I just posted it on my blog, just a block in at this point.
thanks Jason..
I think fall is one of the most difficult seasons to paint. So much of our emotions gives way to all the reds, the oranges and yellows...but painting it is really quite hard. Like so many visual voices, that nothing of the richness and charm of the moment is given its due justice.
I am liking this one...something about keeping one side of the scene in a bit of shadow, slightly subdued, allows for the richness to not be lost.
The single darting ruffed grouse looking for quick shelter is like so many moments I've observed the bird.
I'll check out your self-caricature...and know it will be awesome!
love ya
