For myself, subjects such as this are more
an experiment and wrestling with backgrounds
and textures.
Tried to keep the brushwork to a level of
what felt essential...that is, that peculiar
mystique of REAL'ness without appearing to
strive to suggest it is anything other than
a painting.
Not precluding the world needs another painting
from my hand...but more that perhaps I needed
the exercise and understanding that came from
attempting it. That seems more and more to
identify my need to paint, to nurture a childlike
awe with the world and maintain my sense of
privilege to yet be a habitant here.
