Waterglass

oil 7"x 5"

Painted very spontaneously, looking to
capture the energy of the light passing
thru the glass, reflecting off of it
letting bits of color and value here and
there define form and the moment.

In alla prima direct painting, there is
an effort to say the most with the least,
to find perfect economy. One more brush
stroke than is necessary is overkill, yet
one less than needed leaves the work
unfinished. Another axiom I aim for, but
perhaps often miss...is "a brushstroke
laid is a brushstroke stayed" Such is
genius and mastery.
